Popular Swimming Pool Designs for the Atlanta Area

Compare geometric, freeform, compact, and elevated pool layouts for North Atlanta backyards without choosing a shape before assessing the property.

There is no single pool shape that works best across North Atlanta. The useful comparison is how a design fits the house, grade, available width, and way you use the yard. These are common design approaches to discuss, rather than a measured ranking of local popularity.

Geometric layouts

Straight lines can relate clearly to a house, terrace, or long swimming area. They also make furniture and circulation easier to sketch. Check how the geometry meets an irregular property boundary and whether the desired deck width remains usable on every side.

Freeform layouts

Curves can soften the relationship between water, planting, and irregular outdoor spaces. Ask what each curve accomplishes. A more elaborate outline can reduce usable swimming or deck space if it is chosen mainly for the way it looks from above.

Compact pools and integrated features

A smaller water footprint can preserve room for dining, a pavilion, or a garden. Discuss actual dimensions, intended activities, and equipment access. A small pool is still a construction project with site, utility, drainage, and approval requirements.

Elevated and slope-responsive designs

A change in grade can shape the pool edge and its relationship to retaining walls or terraces. Start with feasibility and the view from the house. Review a real project film with the builder to see how the water, walls, and circulation function together.
